Our story

A real business facing a difficult chapter.

Primefield is an operating maize milling company. I started the business after finishing college, and today it supports a full-time team and supplies Miale sifted maize meal to the market.

Over time, weaknesses in our controls led to serious losses. We experienced inventory theft, shortages between maize purchased and maize received at the factory, internal stock losses, and cases where customers paid less than the full value of products supplied.

As the director, I accept responsibility for not having strong enough controls in place early enough to prevent those losses.

Why it matters

Debt doesn't only sit on a balance sheet.

Our accumulated supplier debt is approximately KES 10.5 million. The effect has been practical: supplier confidence has been damaged, maize supply has become harder to secure, and that makes it more difficult to keep the mill operating normally.

We have put formal structured repayment proposals to suppliers through our advocates. At the same time, we are working to strengthen the business rather than walking away from it.

If we can clear this burden, we can rebuild supplier confidence, secure maize more reliably and focus again on running the mill well.

This isn't an idea waiting to be built. The milling equipment exists. Miale maize meal is produced and packaged. Finished stock leaves the factory and reaches shops.

Why I haven't given up

Primefield was my first business after college.

It has grown into something that supports employees, suppliers, customers and families beyond me. Closing the doors would be easier than continuing to fight through this chapter—but I don't believe the story should end here.
